How coup leader in Burkina Faso, Col. Damiba, was overthrown in counter-coup by Capt. Traore
Leader of the military coup in Burkina Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba, that overthrew the democratically elected President Roch Kabore in January, was overthrown in a counter-coup led by Captain Ibrahim Traore after hours of exchange of gunfire.

An army captain, Captain Ibrahim Traore, on national television, announced that he has ousted the military leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba. He cited Damiba’s inability to contain the jihadists as reason for his overthrow.
Captain Traore, after the coup, announced indefinite closure of the borders and suspension of all political activities in the country.
