NAPTIP shuts down illegal orphanage in Jos

The National Agency for Trafficking in Person, (NAPTIP), has shut down an illegal orphanage in Jos, the Plateau State capital and arrested the owner for selling children. 

The agency in a statement on Wednesday, said that officers of the Makurdi Zonal Command intercepted a woman in Makurdi enroute Calabar in company of two children who she claimed she paid N70,000 each to adopt from an orphanage.

“Investigation lead to the the closing down of the illegal orphanage “The Lord’s Fellowship International” behind ECWA Church, Gurandok area, Jos owned by the one Mr. Monday Daman.

The Commander, Mrs Gloria Bai in her statement, said investigation reveals that the suspect Mr. Monday Daman goes to different villages in states in crisis situations like Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, Plateau to deceive the families that he is bringing them to put them in school while he gives them out to other people on demand.

The illegal orphanage operated in a 3 bedroom rented apartment and when NAPTIP search the facility they found about 67 adults and children in the facility.

The apartment has been sealed up while some of the members of the families of the children have been traced and the children reunited.

Some of the children were handed over to the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs. The suspects will all be charged to court accordingly.
