Plateau State to establish CNG conversion centre, LNG mega station in Jos
“The State Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Jatau Gyang Davou, who disclosed this while given the scorecard of his ministry, said a suitable location has been identified for a temporary site to commence operations after a facelift of the facility.”
The Plateau State Government has announced an agreement with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion centre and an Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Mega Station in Jos.
The State Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Jatau Gyang Davou, disclosed this while presenting his ministry’s scorecard. He confirmed that a suitable temporary site has been identified for the immediate commencement of operations after a necessary facelift of the facility.
Hon. Davou also stated that the State Ministry of Transport has concluded discussions with the NITT to establish a training and learning center in Jos, with operations expected to begin in September 2025.
This initiative is driven by the recognized need for skilled and professional transport operators, technicians, and managers to effectively manage the state’s investments in the transportation sector.
“The institute will be running courses and programs in the transport space to include short- and long-term certificates, national diplomas, advanced national diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s in transportation and logistics,” he said.”
He further highlighted that the ministry has secured approval from Greenville Limited for the establishment of a CNG conversion center in Jos, which is intended to serve the northeastern and other neighboring states.

An approval for five hectares of land has already been granted for this foreign direct investment project.
The Commissioner added that the Certificate of Occupancy is currently being awaited from the Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, with the project expected to be executed within a maximum period of six months.
Regarding transport policy and master planning, Hon. Davou noted that the state has received Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s endorsement for the development of a multi-modal transport policy and master plan by the NITT, Zaria.
He explained that once this transport policy document is developed, Plateau State will possess a pragmatic, inclusive, and data-driven framework for general transportation infrastructural development.
This, he believes, will significantly enhance Plateau State’s position as a regional hub for mobility, trade, and economic growth within the transport industry.
