PDP shaky as Akpabio, Ayade, Umahi, Ugwuanyi conclude plans to defect to APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is heading to a seeming volcanic eruption as three south east governors are set dump the opposition party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio.
National Daily gathered that Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and PDP Senate Minority Leader, has concluded negotiations with APC leaders to defect from the PDP to the ruling APC.
The list of prominent PDP stakeholders that have concluded plans to defect to APC was said to include Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The PDP governors were said to have held finalizing talks for their reception into the APC family.
Akpabio was revealed to have had talks with APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; followed by a long meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday at the Presidential Villa on his defection to APC.
Akpabio was said to have been absent at PDP NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Several reasons were adduced for the resolve of these PDP leaders to defect to the APC from the PDP. Part of the reasons include disagreement with PDP leaders their respective states. Some others adduce that some of the potential defectors are defecting to escape EFCC corruption hammer. Indeed, a major defector, National Daily gathered, was purportedly shown his looted record by the EFCC and was given the condition that the only way he cannot be prosecuted or loses the looted fund to decamp to the ruling party, where part of the loot would be sued to fund APC electioneering campaign in 2019.
