Plateau LG Tussle: APC to hold Gov. Mutfwang for breach of law
The opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), in Plateau State has said it will hold Gov. Caleb Mutfwang responsible for any breakdown of Law and order in the State regarding the unconstitutional manner in which he sacked the elected 17 Local Government Chairmen.
The APC said Mutfwang as a lawyer should have known that due process in accordance to the Constitution should be followed in meddling with any duly elected office.
The party further alleged that the Governor is only taking revenge on what the APC did in 2015 when it took over power and sacked the LGA Chairman of which Mutfwang was among those affected.
“Two wrongs don’t make a right”, Spokesman for the APC, Sylvanus Namang said in a press parley with Journalists in Jos on Sunday.
“As a responsible opposition in the State, the party would hold the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) , especially the Governor, Bar Caleb Mutfwang accountable for critical decisions of his administration as well as keep his pronouncements and actions under scrutiny for the good of the State.
“We condemned in totality the controversial issues of the purported action of both the Governor and the Plateau House of Assembly which smack of executive recklessness and legislative impudence if not impunity against established legal constitutional and legislative procedures.
“The Local governments are established by law and due process ought to be followed in tempering with their structures and operations.
“For all intents and purposes, the actions of the House of assembly presided over by Speaker Ayuba Nuhu Abok whose seat had since October 2021 had been declared vacant but was brought through the back door under a clearly disputed high court judgement which has been appealed against, to preside over the House of Assembly is illegal.
“This is a clear vendetta by the Governor, who has assumed office in less than one week”.
“We are aware that the elected Chairmen have filed a motion for interlocutory injunction to restrain the Governor from suspending their tenure and legislative arms”.
“We call for the immediate reinstatement of the elected council Chairmen in the 17 local government area Chairmen”, the APC spokesman said.
