How Evans made N668m, $6.2m from 19 of 20 kidnap deals

Absence of prosecution witnesses stall trials of alleged kidnap kingpin ‘Evans’

Evans at the early stage of investigations was reported to have confessed to the following kidnapping and ransom collections in Edo and Lagos states:

(1) Mr. Mbarikatta William Uboma, kidnapped in Festac Town, June 16, 2012, collected N20 million ransom.

2) Mr. Paul Cole, native of Ohafia, Abia State, kidnapped August 23rd, 2012 at Festac Town N20 million ransom paid.

3) Mr. Mohammed Jamal, a Lebanese, kidnapped August 19, 2012, at Ajah, N17 million ransom paid at Ojo Area Lagos,

4) Mr. Kingsley Nwokenta kidnapped September 19, 2012, after he left Lebanon Bar in Festac Town, paid N15 million ransom and his black Toyota Venza was taken

5) Mr. Anthony Ozoanidobi kidnapped   October 10, 2012, along Marwa road, Satellite Town, N15 million ransom paid at the point of his released at Apple junction, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

6) Mr. Leo Abraham kidnapped August 20, 2012, N15 million ransom paid; he was released along Badagry road, Lagos.

7) Mr. Ojukwu Cosmas, sells Toyota parts at Aspanda Trade Fair, Kidnapped on January 21, 2016 at Festac Town. $1 million ransom paid.

8. Mr. James Uduji, Kidnapped at 7th Avenue Festac Town, a year before the arrest, held for six weeks, $1.2 million ransom paid.

9. Chief Raymond Okoye, a.k.a. Odu- Na –Ichida, kidnapped 2015; paid $1 million ransom; held captive for two months

10) Uche Okoroafor, trader at Alaba Market, kidnapped 2015, held captive for three months, paid $1 million ransom.

11) Elias Ukachukwu kidnapped November 2015, paid $1 million ransom.

(12) Francis Umeh, a spare parts dealer at Aspanda; kidnapped July 2016 at Raji Rasaki Estate; $1 million ransom paid.

13) Chief Vincent Obianudo, owner of Young Shall Grow Motors, Evans allegedly led his gang to kidnap Obaiduno in 2013, Fortunately, Police attached to Chief Vincent opened fire, killed two Evans boys and Evans killed one policeman and escaped, Chief Vincent sustained bullet wounds but survived after several surgeries,

14) His last Victim in Lagos is Mr. Donatus Dunu, a Pharmacist and Importer of drugs; kidnapped on February 14, 2017 in Elupeju area of Lagos and after the sum of N150 million was paid by the family, Evans refused to release victim and demanded for another N300 million. Fortunately, Mr. Dunu escaped from the Evans detention Camp in Igando on May 12, 2017.

(15) Mr. Ohunyon Ernest kidnapped in Edo State November 2011; paid N85 million ransom

16) Chief Dan Odiete kidnapped in Benin City in 2013, paid N61 million ransom.

17) Mr. Uyi Technical kidnapped in Benin City in 2013; paid N100 million ransom.

18) Mr. Tom Line kidnapped in Benin City 2012; paid N100 million ransom.

19) Kings Paint, kidnapped in Benin City 2010, paid ransom of N40 million

20) Mr. Randeki, kidnapped in 2010, paid ransom of N30 million.

So far in Total:

* A sum of N668 million.

* A sum of $6.2 million

Investigations and prosecution have been going on.

Meanwhile, there is emerging advocacy that the government could use Evans as a case study to unravel the techniques of kidnapping and modalities of ransom payment to help the security operatives understand the dynamics of the trade and how to deal with other kidnapping cases across the country.
