Swiss goalie Yann Sommer bids farewell to international football
Swiss international goalkeeper Yann Sommer announced on Monday his retirement from the national team with which he began his career in 2012.
His retirement announcement signals the end of a distinguished football career, defined by exceptional performances and unwavering dedication.
A Monday statement from the Swiss Football Association website disclosed this.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my career as the goalkeeper for the Swiss national team.
It has been a great honour and privilege for me to represent my country at the highest level for twelve years, over 94 international matches,” he said.
His departure marks the end of an era for Swiss football, as fans and colleagues reflect on his significant contributions and celebrate his impressive legacy in the sport.
Sommer (35 years old) retires as the most-capped goalkeeper in Swiss national team history and will henceforward focus on his club, Inter Milan, according to the ASF.
