NAMA bows to pressure of aviation unions
…fast-tracks implementation of COS
By Isaac Tersoo Agber
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has bowed to the pressure of aviation unions over non-approval of a document that contains staff Conditions of Service. The agency said it has already submitted the Conditions of Service (COS) document of its staff to the Federal Ministry of Aviation to commence the necessary approval and implementation processes.
This came as a reply to the unions’ threat to shutdown operations of NAMA if it fails to approve the document after 21 days.

In a press statement issued to aviation correspondents, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Olajumoke Adetona, acknowledged receipt of a letter signed by three unions; Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations civil Service Technical and Recreational services Employees (AUPCTRE) seeking to meet with the management of NAMA to discuss the seeming delay in the approval of agreed terms in the new COS.
According to her, the COS document had been submitted to the Federal Ministry of Aviation to commence the necessary required approval processes, adding that the agency has acknowledged receipt of the letter in writing and that the agency would, in due course, agree a date to meet with the unions to review and follow up on the required approval stages leading to the implementation of the COS document.
