Tension heightens over Ukraine as Russia test-fires missiles Saturday
Tension heightened over Ukraine on Saturday after Russia carried out successful test its latest hypersonic, cruise and nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in “planned exercises”. The action wakened NATO to urgent need for preparation for war in the Ukraine border. U.S. President Joe Biden convened emergency meeting of NATO over the missile test by Russia.
Russian Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, briefing Russian President Putin on television, declared that “All the missiles hit their targets, confirming their performance objectives.”
The Russian authorities in a statement indicated that the drills included Tu-95 bombers and submarines. “The main objective of these exercises is to perfect the performance of our strategic offensive forces, with the aim of delivering a guaranteed strike against the enemy,” the statement revealed.
Russian President Putin watched the drills from the Kremlin’s situation room with visiting President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus.
Russian Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov explained that the strategic drills involved two stages.
The first was to test the work of “weapons of heightened potential menace.
“The second involves the sanctioned, massive use of strategic offensive weapons of the Russian Federation in case of a retaliatory strike,” General Gerasimov declared.
The authorities disclosed that Russia’s Black and North Sea navies, including the strategic forces were involved in the drills.
The tension in Ukraine is escalating by the day, more importantly over the presence of Western Europe in the Eastern bloc.
