Dictionary announces ‘Gaslighting’ as the most searched word in 2022
The Merriam Webster Dictionary has announced that ‘gaslighting’ is their word for the year 2022.
According to the dictionary, gaslighting is “the act or practice of grossly misleading someone especially for one’s own advantage.”
In a statement it released on Monday, the dictionary said interest in the word was up by 1,740% over the previous years according to searches of the online dictionary.
Other words with high search rates include, ‘oligarch,’ ‘codify,’ ‘LGBTAQIA,’ ’sentient,’ ‘omicron,’ ‘queen consort,’ and others.
