Institute laud Military Task Force on early warning response
The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution has lauded the Special Military Task Force in Plateau State for deploying and implementing an early warning response in combating crime, criminality and crisis in its general area of responsibility.
The taskforce code named Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has been maintaining peace in Southern Kaduna, some parts of Bauchi State, and Plateau, our correspondent reports.
Speaking in a courtesy call to the Headquarters of the taskforce in Jos, the Head of the Zonal Office Institute, Mr. Adejo Haruna, praised the OPSH for initiating the early response mechanism which has worked magically in the reduction of conflict.
Adejo said the institute has enhanced the use of non-kinetic approach, research, interventions and capacity building of crisis-affected communities.
He explained that non-kinetic and kinetic approaches are required to permanently address and prevent recurring conflicts in Plateau.
He presented a report on the dynamics of conflict in Nigeria to the Commander of the taskforce and GOC 3 Division Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim.
During the presentation he said both agencies must continually collaborate to achieve effective peace and conflict resolution in areas marked vulnerable.
Responding, Maj-Gen Ibrahim, thanked the group for its support to the security agencies in managing the conflicts, especially in the area of recurring farmer/herder crisis on the Plateau.
He also tasked the people to continually support the efforts of the security agencies in tackling insecurity by uniting against the enemies of peace.
Ibrahim assured that the OPSH will continue to engage relevant organisations and stakeholders in a bid to apply new strategies to improve the security of lives and properties of the people in various communities as well as bring to an end to conflicts experienced in the country.
“There is no free conflict society; however, the ability to resolve conflicts within the shortest possible time is essential to the healthy existence of the society”, Ibrahim said.
This medium reports that the institute is a federal government lead agency established to engage in conflict resolution and peace-building in Sub-Saharan Africa.
