Court remands 2 over alleged theft of smartphone worth N240,000

A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the remand of two men in a correctional facility over an alleged theft of a smartphone worth N240, 000.
The two men, identified as Michael Olanrewaju, 42 and Ayo Adetola, 39, were alleged to have stolen a Samsung AO6 smartphone.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
The court’s President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo ordered them to be remanded in Agodi correctional facility after they were unable to fulfill the bail condition granted them.
Akintayo had admitted each of the defendants who pleaded not guilty to the offences to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two reliable sureties.
She said that each of the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Oyo Government.
She adjourned the case to June 16 for trial.
Earlier, the Prosecution, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni told the court that the defendants committed the crime on April 8, at about 11 a.m., at Oyebamiji Street, Asi area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ayeni added that the duo along with others now at large conspired to steal the phone which belonged to one Kunle Ayegban, the cmplainant.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 vol. ii law of Oyo State 2000.
