Okpebholo pledges 500-bed hostel for AAU medical school

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced plans to construct a 500-bed hostel facility for the medical school of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, in a move aimed at boosting student accommodation and improving learning conditions.

The governor made the pledge during his campaign tour of several wards in Esan West Local Government Area, including Iruekpen and Ekpoma, as part of activities ahead of the August 16 Edo Central Senatorial by-election.

He assured that construction work would commence within the coming weeks.

“Edo State Government will build a 500 hostel space accommodation for the medical school in AAU, Ekpoma. In the coming weeks, we will mobilise work to start,” Okpebholo said.

“Remember that the first thing I announced when I became governor was that we were going to increase the subvention of this school to N500 million. Have we not done it? Have we not constituted the governing council for the school?”

Reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises, the governor called on party faithful to work towards securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The campaign event drew the participation of top All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, including the State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); Secretary to the State Government; and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Gani Audu, among others.

Governor Okpebholo’s announcement follows earlier measures to strengthen AAU’s operations, including the N500 million subvention increase and the constitution of a new governing council, both of which he has described as part of his administration’s agenda to revitalise tertiary education in the state.
