Knicks end 27-year wait, reach NBA finals after dominant sweep of Cavaliers
The New York Knicks have secured a place in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after completing a commanding sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks sealed a 4–0 series victory following a dominant 130–93 win in Game 4, extending their postseason winning streak to 11 games and completing one of the most convincing playoff runs in recent franchises.
The victory marks the Knicks’ first NBA Finals appearance in 27 years, ending a long-standing drought for one of the league’s most storied franchises. The team had previously swept the Philadelphia 76ers and defeated the Atlanta Hawks en route to the conference finals, maintaining strong momentum throughout the playoffs.
Star guard Jalen Brunson led the charge for New York and was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP after averaging 25.5 points and 7.8 assists across the series.
In Game 4, the Knicks overwhelmed Cleveland with a balanced offensive and defensive display, outscoring and out-rebounding the Cavaliers decisively in what became a one-sided contest.
Across the postseason, the Knicks have established themselves as one of the most in-form teams in the league, combining disciplined defense with efficient scoring and depth contributions from multiple players, including Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges.
The Cavaliers, led by Donovan Mitchell, were unable to recover after falling behind early in the series and were swept despite home-court advantage in the final game.
The Knicks’ playoff run has also generated significant attention off the court, with increased celebrity presence at Madison Square Garden and strong social media engagement from fans celebrating the team’s resurgence.
The Knicks now await the winner of the Western Conference Finals to determine their opponent in the NBA Finals, where they will compete for their first championship since 1973.
As excitement builds in New York, analysts say the team’s dominant form has made them one of the early favourites heading into the championship series.
