Police arrest 2 suspected cultists, recover locally made firearm
The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists during an operation in Ohonre Community, Benin City, recovering a cut-to-size firearm.
According to police sources, the suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid carried out by operatives acting on credible intelligence about cult-related activities in the area.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun believed to have been used for criminal activities linked to cultism and armed violence within the community.
The police said the suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing interrogation as investigations continue to determine the extent of their involvement and possible links to other criminal networks.
The Edo State Police Command has intensified operations against cultism and violent crimes across the state in recent weeks, with several arrests and recoveries recorded in different parts of Benin and surrounding communities.
Authorities say the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb cult-related violence and improve security in the state.
