Sunday Igboho issues fresh ultimatum over Oyo kidnap incident

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a two-hour ultimatum to Fulani leaders in Igboho, Oyo State, demanding the immediate release of the body of a pregnant woman allegedly kidnapped and killed by suspected Fulani gunmen.

The activist made the demand during a tense meeting with Fulani community leaders in Igboho town, where he condemned the alleged abduction and killing of the pregnant woman and another individual who reportedly delivered ransom money to the kidnappers.

According to reports, armed men suspected to be Fulani herders invaded the Igboho area in the dead of night and abducted a pregnant woman alongside her sibling. The kidnappers were said to have initially demanded a ransom of N300 million for their release before later reducing the amount to N150 million.

However, Sunday Igboho rejected the idea of the victims’ families paying any ransom, insisting that Fulani leaders in the community should take responsibility for securing the release of the victims and recovering the body of the deceased woman.

Addressing the gathering in Yoruba, the activist expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as unacceptable and a direct challenge to the peace and security of his hometown.

He accused the perpetrators of operating within the area without regard for the law, alleging that the pregnant woman and the individual who brought ransom money were both killed despite efforts to secure their freedom.

Igboho warned that such incidents could no longer be tolerated in the community, stressing that criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, had increasingly targeted Yoruba residents.

The activist further claimed that efforts to trace phone numbers linked to the kidnappers led investigators to locations allegedly associated with some members of the Fulani community. He alleged that the victims were moved between different locations within the area to evade detection.

He subsequently issued a two-hour deadline to Fulani leaders to produce the kidnapped victims, including the woman’s children and siblings, or face consequences.

According to him, Fulani leaders should collectively raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers if necessary, maintaining that the victims’ families would not be responsible for making any payment.

The incident has heightened tensions in the community, with residents expressing concerns over rising insecurity and recurring cases of kidnapping in parts of Oyo State.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official response from Fulani leaders in the area regarding the allegations, while security agencies had yet to issue a statement on the claims made by the Yoruba Nation activist.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and killings as concerns continue to grow over security challenges affecting rural communities in the region.
