What APC official response to Alhassan remark on Buhari second term means for 2019
APC Dep. National Chairman Segun Oni has responded to statements credited to Women Affairs Minister Aisha Alhassan suggesting that President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 ambition is already wobbling even among his own ministers.
Alhassan said in a BBC Hausa Service interview that she would not support Buhari if he contested come 2019—that she would rather back her godfather Atiku Abubakar, an APC stalwart and former vice president.
“I am surprised that it happened in the first instance, but that is for the President and the party to talk about it at the appropriate time,” Oni told journalists.
Alhassan. Aka Mama Taraba, on Thursday told State House correspondents that whatever happens—if Buhari sacks—it is the will of God. She also affirmed her loyalty to Buhari
The minister confirmed to journalists that she did not have any meeting with Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.
Oni’s response cannot be taken as official, though.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s publicity secretary, told Premium Times the party has no comment for now.
Apart from the party chairman, John Oyegun and Osita Okechukwu, who had been pushing for a Buhari second term, many in the party have showed no excitement about that ambition.
