Buhari receives report on political situation in Benin Republic
President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, on Tuesday received in audience, the delegation from the Republic of Benin led by Mr. Pascal Irenn Koupaki, the special envoy of President Talon, at the State Holuse, Abuja, who was in Nigeria to deliver a report from the Benin President to the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari. National Daily learned that Koupaki was accompanied by Mr Aurelien Agbenonci, the Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials on the trip to Nigeria.
President Patrice Talon of the Republic of Benin had sent the Special Envoy to Nigeria to deliver a message to President Muhammadu Buhari on the country’s political situation.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday indicated that Vice President Osinbajo told the delegation that Nigeria looks forward to a peaceful and amicable resolution of the political situation in Benin Republic.
VP Osinbajo assured the delegation that he would convey the message from President Talon to “his brother;” declaring: “President Buhari looks forward to a peaceful and amicable resolution of the ongoing political issues in Benin Republic.”
Mr Pascal Irenn Koupaki had earlier said that the delegation was at the Presidential Villa to present two memos from President Patrice Talon to his Nigerian counterpart, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the issues surrounding the general elections in Benin Republic.
The Special Envoy said the Beninoise leader sent the message to the Nigerian leader “as a big brother that deserves to know what is happening next door.”
Also present at the event was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman, other officials at Nigeria and Benin Republic’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
