APC Consensus: Buhari orders refund of nomination form fees to rejected aspirants
President Muhammadu Buhari at the meeting with Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the build up to the March 26 national convention for the election of members of the National Working Committee (NWC), persuaded the governors to adopt a consensus candidate for the national chairman and other positions at the convention. The President ordered that with the consent to consensus candidates, the party should refund the money of all aspirants who bought nomination forms for the NWC election but were eliminated through the consensus process immediately.
President Buhari reminded the governor APC had always chosen its leadership by consensus in the past. He pleaded that the party chooses the next leaders by consensus. “This is consistent with the spirit of democracy, the Party’s Constitution, and the Nigerian Constitution,” Buhari said.
President Buhari emphasized that he has already made his own input and other recommendations on the way forward in both his meeting with the Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Committee on 25th February, 2022 and his letter to the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum on 13th March, 2022.
Buhari had declared: “With the convention only two days away I implore you to come together and sort out all the remaining party positions so that within the next 24 hours we can arrive at a Unity List which we can take to the convention.
“Finally, all those who have bought forms indicating interest and have been dropped should have their money refunded without delay.
“I count on the support and understanding of all of Your Excellencies present here today.”
