Kogi assembly complex remains shut over choice of new speaker

• Gov Bello denies interference

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has denied interfering with the affairs of the Assembly through financial inducement.

The Governor was reacting to some reports particularly on line media that the Governor is trying to influence the house by offering financial inducement to influence the choice of speaker.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Kingsley Fanwo stated that” as a Governor who fully understands the economic temperature of the state and having  promised to manage the commonwealth of the state in a responsible, responsive and transparent manner,there was no way he would have engaged on such venture”

“Governor Yahaya Bello did not give any financial inducement to anyone with an intent to influencing the decisions of House members on the choice of leadership or any other matter whatsoever. ”

He urged Kogites to discountenance rumour mongers who are out to distract him from delivering democracy dividends to the people.

He assured the people of Kogi State  of running a government where transparency and probity are the hallmarks.

But the House failed to resume sitting today due to the on going strike by the state civil service.

The house which adjourned last December to resume sitting today  failed to sit as the complex remains  shut.

A member of the Assembly who did want his name in the print told National Daily that the sitting has been shifted toThursday due to inability of the Government to resolve the strike issue before today.

Our correspondent gathered that a meeting held in Lokoja between the labour Union and the Governor, Yahaya Bello could not yield any positive result that could warrant calling off the strike.

It was gathered that while the Governor is offering just one Month’s salary out of four months owed to the workers, while the Labour Union is insisting on at least two months as the only acceptable precondition for suspending the strike.

The meeting between the Governor  and the Labour Union is expected to hold  again with a view to resolving the crisis while the Assembly is expected to resume sitting on Thursday depending on the outcome of the meeting before Thursday
