NAFDAC gives FG 72-hour strike notice
Employees who work for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), have officially communicated to the federal government their intention to go on strike. They have given the government a notice period of 72 hours, clearly stating that this action is a response to what they describe as anti-worker practices occurring within the agency and possibly beyond.
According to reports gathered by National Daily, these workers have pledged to initiate a nationwide strike starting on October 7, 2024, unless their demands are satisfactorily met by then. They are determined and have made it clear that they will move forward with the strike if the issues they are facing are not addressed.

The General Secretary of the internal workers’ union at NAFDAC, Comrade Salih Ahmed Aledeh, has stated that this impending strike action comes after a previous 14-day ultimatum given to the management of NAFDAC. This ultimatum was intended to push the management to engage with their concerns and address their demands, but unfortunately, the management has not taken the necessary actions to resolve these issues.
In what is being viewed as an important development that will have an impact on Nigeria’s public health sector, it has now been confirmed that the employees at NAFDAC will proceed with an indefinite strike starting on the specified date of October 7, 2024. This decision to strike signifies their frustrations and highlights the urgent nature of the matters at hand, particularly in light of the fact that the management has not responded sufficiently to the various concerns raised by the branch of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria that represents these employees. The situation remains tense as workers prepare to take this significant step if their grievances are not addressed promptly.
