Nigeria’s former president dies at 85
Former President Ernest Shonekan is dead.
The news of the death of the leader of the Interim National Government former military President Ibrahim Babangida set up in the wake of the 1993 botched transition broke Tuesday.
Shonekan’s government , but his government was toppled by the late General Sani Abacha, who was defence secretary to the IG, on November 17, 1993.
Born in 1936 , Shonekan lived man and boy in Lagos, though he was a native of Abeokuta in Ogun .
He attended C.M.S Grammar School and Igbobi College, Lagos, before obtaining a law degree from the University of London, and was later called to the bar.
