Lagos Assembly adopts recommendations on Staff Housing Bill.
The Lagos House of Assembly has adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Establishments, Training, Pensions and Public Service on the Lagos State Government Staff Housing Board Bill, 2021.
The house adopted the recommendations of the committee as the report of the house, as amended, through a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
A public hearing was held on Nov. 5, 202 to deliberate on the proposed law which is aimed at repealing the Lagos State Government Staff Housing Board Law, 2015.
Earlier, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu, presented the report on the floor of the house during the plenary on Monday.
Ogundimu said the bill would repeal an existing law on housing for the state public servants.
“For the state public servants to perform effectively, there is need for the welfare of the staff in which housing played a key role.
“There is, therefore, the need to provide loans that will be affordable in order to assist the public servants in securing accommodation,” he said.
Ogundimu, while highlighting the recommendations of the committee, noted that the submissions and contributions raised by the stakeholders during the public hearing were incorporated.
Speaking, Hon. Tobun Abiodun, representing Epe 1, added that the bill was meant for the welfare of civil servants in the state and the omnibus was on the permanent secretary.
Contributing, Hon. Setonji David, representing Badagry 2, said the bill should be explicit in its application.
