New batch of 126 Nigerian students evacuated from Sudan arrive Abuja
A new batch of Nigerians evacuated from the war torn Sudan on Thursday arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on board Tarco Aviation aircraft. The aircraft was said to have flown “126 evacuees, all students from Port Sudan,” and landed in Nigeria at 12:25pm.
The Nigerian evacuees were said to be guided to fill the returnee registration forms administered to them by federal government officials.
The federal agencies that received the returnees on arrival include NEMA, NIDCOM, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Others include operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the military.
It was disclosed that the federal government has evacuated over 2,000 Nigerians from Sudan since the outbreak of war in the country.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said to have indicated that about 500 Nigerians are still awaiting airlift in Sudan.
