How hungry ‘pure water’ hawker, baby fell down, got richer as Anambra guber candidate helped her up
Amarachi Nwachukwu, a sachet water hawker at Okpoko town, a slum within Onitsha, Anambra State, fell down with months-old baby on her back just about the time a guber candidate came to flag off a road project.
Her fall was not for the camera. She wasn’t sick either.
And the Zenith Labour Party candidate Obiora Okonkwo believed her when he got there to rescue her.
Rescue?
The fall didn’t give her any bone break or torn flesh. So it wasn’t much of rescue.
Okonkwo bought her food, after helping her out of the mud she fell into.
“I am not sick,’ she said.
‘I’m only weak because I have not eaten for days. I only used the N200 given to me by someone to buy pure water to hawk, so I can get money to feed myself.”
Now the single mother had a lucky break there.
According to Obiora, he came to tee-off a road construction by his foundation at Ndida when it all happened.
“We have given the parish priest of St. Charles Lwanga N200,000 for her to begin a small business. I do not want to give her the money here, so she doesn’t become a subject of attack. We have told her to go to the church after now and claim the money,” the guber candidate said.
“I have also instructed that my foundation, Pro-Value Humanity Foundation takes her for a comprehensive health check.
“My mind bleeds because people are suffering this much, and these are the kind of things that drive me to become the governor, so I can help people,” Okonkwo said.
