Court remands man in correctional facility over alleged conspiracy
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a man, Ola Samuel, at the correctional centre over alleged conspiracy to rape.
Samuel, whose address was not provided, is being tried over alleged conspiracy and transmission of nude video on the social media.
The prosecution counsel, Mrs Shirley Etane, told the court that the defendant and others currently at large, committed the offence in October 2020 at Ilupeju Ekiti.
Etane said Samuel conspired with others, now at large, to rape a middle-aged woman, and transmitted her nude video to her former husband through the social media.
According to her, the offences contravene Section 516 of the Criminal Code and Sections 24(1) (a) and (b) of the Cyber Crime Prohibition and Prevention Law, 2015.
She urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution.
The Magistrate, Mrs Dolapo Fasuba, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility, pending the issuance of legal advice.
She adjourned the case to April 8 for mention.
