PDP suspends Igyorov Ward Executive in Benue over Ayu’s removal
The State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue on Thursday suspended the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov, Gboko Local Government Area, led by Kashi Philip, for instigating the removal of the former PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The PDP acting State Chairman in Benue, Isaac Mffo, at a press conference in Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday, declared the suspension of the PDP Igyorov ward executive for one month, citing the need for restoration of peace in the party.
The acting State Chairman mandated that the PDP state working committee will henceforth take over the affairs of the party in Igyorov ward, which is Ayu’s primary constituency.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, had in a statement on Tuesday, declared: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at an emergency meeting today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023, acknowledge the Order of the Benue State High Court, dated March 27, 2023, with regards to the Chairmanship position of our great Party.
“After careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North), His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum, assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in an acting capacity with effect from today, Tuesday, March 28, 2023.”
The PDP Ward Executive in Igyorov, had earlier suspended Ayu, alleging anti-party activities, before the court restraining order.
