Estranged husband allegedly sets Italy-based wife’s apartment on fire
Tragedy struck in Idumwonwina, Edo State, as Italy-based businesswoman Tina Suyi narrowly escaped death after her estranged husband, Osaro Ahunwan, allegedly set her apartment ablaze.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving Tina’s three-bedroom apartment completely detroyed. Tina, who returned to Nigeria on December 31, 2024, lost a significant amount of money in local and foreign currencies, along with packages she was delivering for friends in Italy.
Eyewitnesses revealed that her estranged husband Osaro arrived at Tina’s apartment, demanding entry. After she refused, citing their broken relationship and the return of her bride price in April 2024, he reportedly threatened to burn down the apartment. Moments later, he shattered her windows, poured petrol, and set the apartment on fire.
Neighbors managed to rescue Tina’s elderly parents, both in their 90s, while firefighters contained the blaze.

Tina, who sustained injuries, is receiving treatment. She disclosed that Osaro had a history of violence, jealousy, and controlling behavior, which led to their separation after less than two years of marriage.
Police have arrested Osaro and an alleged accomplice, Odaro Oviarobo—Tina’s elder brother. Osaro confessed that Odaro provided information about Tina’s arrival in exchange for ₦5,000 and even supplied the lighter used in the attack.
Odaro reportedly harbored resentment toward his sister over financial issues.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrests, and investigations are ongoing.
