Bauchi Water Corporation warns against extortion for water connection
The Bauchi State Water and Sewage Corporation has called on the public to report anybody extorting money with the pretext of connecting their homes to water pipes.
Alhaji Aminu Gital, the Managing Director of the corporation gave the warning while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Thursday.
Gital described activities of such individuals as unauthorized and illegal.
He said the corporation would prosecute anybody found to be extorting money for pipe connection, adding that the corporation did not give such work to any group or individual.
Gital explained that the contract for the water pipe connection was handled by China Geo Company and the company did not gave out sub-contract to anybody or organization.
NAN reports that some faceless individuals were alleged to be collecting N1,000 from households in the guise of connecting water pipes to their homes.
It was learnt that they were doing this in preparation for the expected release of 75 million cubic liters of water daily for consumption of Bauchi residents.
